Hill Country Restaurants- Wimberley Texas
79Wimberley Texas History
Wimberley, Texas is one of the many gems of the Texas Hill Country. It’s one of the quaint Texas towns that tourists love for the small town feel. In fact, Travel Holiday Magazine named Wimberley one of the “Ten Best Small Towns”.
We know the area was settled at one time by Indians as many flint arrowheads and stone tools have been found. The first Texans settled Wimberley in the early 1800s. The settlement has carried many names, including Glendale, Winters’ Mill, Cude’s Mill, Wimberley’s Mill, Wimberleyville, and finally Wimberley, Texas.
As you might guess by the many variations of settlement names ending in “Mill”, Wimberley has had mills along Cypress Creek that supported the settlement, such as a grist mill, flour mill, saw mill and shingle mill. Now shops and restaurants are nestled along the creek.
Wimberley Café
Located in the center of Wimberley Square, on the site of the Pyland Blacksmith Shop is the Wimberley Café. Transport back in time to the feel of a 60s diner. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, starting with the owner, Robin McCullough.
Enjoy eggs with hash browns or grits, biscuits or toast, and your choice of sausage, bacon, ham, or steak. Love omelets? You have a choice of four, as well as two Mexican inspired breakfasts. Classics such as oatmeal, French toast, pancakes, and biscuits and gravy are also available. Breakfast prices range from $3 to $7.
The Wimberley Café lunch menu offers diversity as well. Enjoy a variety of hot or cold sandwiches, including burgers. Cap off your sandwich with Sweet Potato Fries or French Fries. For a really decadent treat, try one of my favorites, Chili Cheese Fries. Vegetarians can choose the Garden Burger or Hot Veggie Sandwich. There is also a nice variety of soups and salads. The menu rounds out with Chicken Tenders and Quesadillas. Prices range from $4 to $8.
Wimberley Café is open at 7 a.m. seven days a week. They close at 3 p.m. on Sundays, but are open until 5 the rest of the week. Enjoy a booth or a table inside, or a nice table outside under cover of the patio. Visit their website or call them at 512-847-0030.
I have enjoyed both breakfast and lunch, both inside and on the patio at the Wimberley Café, and highly recommend them.
Cypress Creek Café
Cypress Creek Café used to be one of my favorite places to go for breakfast when I stayed at my timeshare at Canyon Lake. I always had the Migas, but they are now under new management and no longer open for breakfast! They seem to be doing well. When I popped in to grab a menu, they were hustling.
The lunch menu consists of burgers, sandwiches, and wraps, priced from $9 to $11. Selections include a pulled pork sandwich, portabella veggie wrap, meatloaf sandwich, and Black Angus burger. Soup and sandwich, and salad and sandwich combos are also available.
Go to their website and check out their menu. Sandwiches from the grill are $9 to $11, and include Black Angus burgers, ribeye sandwich, and mahi mahi filet sandwich. House Favorites include Chicken Fried Steak, Hunter Schnitzel (Jaeger Schnitzel), grilled salmon and Shrimp Scampi, ranging from $12 to $19. They boast hand cut steaks for $15 to $26.
According to their menu, lunch is served from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., and dinner until 9 p.m. daily. They have added live music on Friday and Saturdays on their outdoor stage. Visit their website or call them at 512-847-0030.
Though a little pricy, I think their new menu has many, many tempting offerings. I will definitely try the new Cypress Creek Café.
Ino’z Brew & Chew
I tried Ino’z for the first time on my most recent trip to Wimberley. They are located across the street from the main square, on Cypress Creek, which is one of the most peaceful places on earth. Ino’z offers outside seating on the deck, where the live entertainment takes place. Inside there are 6 or 8 tables on the glassed in porch, with a great view of the creek. Around the bar are multiple tables and TVs. It has a sports bar feel, but is not overly loud.
Their menu is sizeable and diverse, and includes 15 sandwiches ($6.50 to $9), 9 wraps ($8 to $9), and 9 hot entrees ($8 to $10). There are also appetizers, loaded potatoes, and salads. Sandwiches include burgers, grilled chicken, fish poboy, Ruben, cheese steak, and veggie burger. Wraps include fajita, veggie, club, teriyaki chicken, honey mustard tenders, and fish wrap.
My brother and I (we call each other Vern) had hot entrees. Vern had chicken tenders with honey mustard and onion rings and I had baby back ribs with curly fries. The chicken tenders were hand cut and battered, and were, well, tender and delicious! The onion rings were thick cuts, and excellent. The ribs were slightly hot spicy, and very tender. Vern wasn’t too keen on the heat of the ribs. Vern also had the Saturday bar special, the Mextini, served in a shaker with a glass. It was a sizeable portion for $7, easily enough for two.
Inp’z opens daily at 11 a.m. They do not have a website, but you can call them at 512-847-6060.
Very friendly staff and terrific view.
Marco’s Italian Restaurant, Inc.
Marco’s is on the square behind Wimberley Café. I love Italian food, but have never tried this restaurant. They do not have a website, and unlike the other restaurants and cafés around Wimberley Square, they could not supply me with a menu. You can call them at 512-847-0742.
14004 Ranch Rd 12, wimberly, TX 78676 - Ino'z Chews & Brews. The addresses for Wimberly Cafe and Cypress Creek Cafe would not come up,but you will be able to see the Square as you drive

What a good surprise this is! - A friend just moved to Wimberly a couple of months ago. I've bookmarked this as well as rated it up.
I'll visit these places when I go out to Texas.
