Hate to Leave a Movie to Pee? RunPee.com Now Available for iPhone!
By rmcrayne
I hate to have to leave during a movie to go pee. There is a website for people like me! RunPee.com gives optimal times to go pee during movies, in order not to miss anything crucial. The service is now available on iPhone and other mobile phones.
I used to love, love, love to go to the theater to see movies. I loved the big screen, the quiet, dark room. Okay, I also loved the Dr. Pepper and buttered popcorn. There was a certain drama to seeing a movie at the theater that made a much bigger impression on me than seeing a movie at home. I could remember which movies I had seen at the theater, which theater, and who I saw it with. I could remember more details about characters and plots in the movies I had seen at the theater.
There was a big stress to seeing a movie at the theater however. I knew that during any movie that was more than 2 hours long, I was going to have to pee before that movie concluded. This is the down side of staying well hydrated, one of my few truly enduring good health habits. I would always be so into the movie that I stressed over when to get up and leave to go to the bathroom, and worry about what I was missing. There was also the agony of having to pee so badly and holding it!
I can now relieve my physical and emotional stress related to movie theater pee trips. RunPee.com gives optimal times during movies to go to pee, when you won’t miss any major action. It gives the best times, key lines of dialogue leading up to the recommended pee break time, how long you have to pee and get back before something good or exciting happens, and a summary of what you will miss.
Here’s an example: There are 4 possible pee times for Avatar, which is 2 hours and 42 minutes. The first is 56 minutes into the movie, for 4 minutes. The second break is at 1 hour 7 minutes, again for 4 minutes. The third recommended pee time is 1 hour 33 minutes into the movie, and lasts for 5 minutes. The final optimal pee opportunity is 1 hour 45 minutes into the film and lasts 4 minutes. For each potential pee opportunity, the site shows the last lines of dialogue or narration that you will hear before you should make your mad dash for the restroom. There is also summary of what you will miss.
The RunPee.com app for iPhone is $1.99. The app features storage so that you can access RunPee information off line. It also has a timer which you start when the previews are over and the movie starts. Then your phone will vibrate a few minutes before optimal pee times.
For Blackberries and other mobiles, you can access m.RunPee.com, which is currently free. This will give you basic information such as the optimal pee times. The site developer anticipates that when Adobe releases Flash Player 10.1, he will expand his program and other mobile users will then have the iPhone features of storage and vibrate.
RunPee Demo
The RunPee.com site developer, Dan Florio, polyGeek, came up with the idea for RunPee.com while at the movie King Kong, a 3 hour movie, with his wife. He sat on the idea about 2 years. He was working in Seattle at Xbox as a Flash Platform developer. As he learned about Flash- or database-driven sites, he decided to put his knowledge and skills to practice. He had RunPee.com live by August 2008, and debuted it at the 360 Flex Conference in San Jose, California.

I had to pee twice during Avatar! The first time was during one of the recommended times. And thankfully, the restroom was relatively close and empty.
My brother and I were just talking about intermissions. I don't think I've been to a movie with intermission since the late 60s, and those were movies made in the 40s or 50s, with built in intermissions, like Gone with the Wind, and the Epic "Bible" movies like with Charlton Heston.
That app is hilarious ... and ingenious!
LR, finally a truly compelling reason to have a smart phone!
Well I have heard it all now lol
ethel I saw a spot on my local news that there is also an iPhone app that shows you all public restrooms, including restrooms in public buildings, like their TV news studio!
There really is nothing worse than having to pee during a movie that you severely overpaid for! I mean if I pay $10 to see a movie I really don't want to miss any crucial parts. I've never heard of that app before, but it sounds pretty funny, but also very useful!
JenD, I know, right?! It really stresses me out! I will definitely check this website before movies from now on.
Great Hub!!!!
The whole hub can be regarded as most intriguing hub. It is immensely fruitful for the reader for instance the RunPee.com app for iPhone is $1.99. The clarity and balance shine from this hub.
This is the craziest thing I have ever seen and why didn't I think of it?? Great hub.
Wow, I read the title and thought it was a joke! There's an app for everything, I guess.
LOL! RM, I have heard it all. I can't stop laughing, however, someone is getting ready to be rich off of this application. The only thing is now when everyone with Iphones is running to the bathrooms at the same time, someone needs to come up with another application called RunPee Alone! LOL! Thanks for the laugh! :)
@ateenyi: Thanks for the warm compliments, and welcome to HubPages!
@ladyjane: Isn't it great?! I saw it on the Today Show this week.
Thanks for reading and commenting Rose West. It's crazy right? I've seen/heard spots on radio and comedy shows, basically T/F, was this item actually for sale on eBay? They should start doing True/False, is this an iPhone app!!
Thats an excellent idea.. I'm always stressing over what I mgiht miss if I run to pee LOL I can't believe there's an app for that :P
Money this guy, polyGeek paid his dues! He tell how the website initially got only 10-20 visits a day. He gives various milestones related to publicity and appearances, and his traffic, before the success and visibility he now has. Bet there's a huge jump after Monday's Today Show.
I usually go to matinees, which usually means peeing alone!
Katelyn, not to wish anyone misery, but good to know someone besides me stresses over it! I'm not changing out phones for another 6 months, but you can bet I'll be visiting the website!
This is a great hub! Haha i never want to leave because I know that I'd miss something important haha I'm probably going to be downloading this.
Kyle thanks for the visit and comment. I agree. I think this is one of the best things since sliced bread!
Your extraordinary hub got my creative juices flowing, you'll pardon the expression. What I came up with were these two gems: 1 - What is the opposite of urine? Answer: You're out. 2 - I asked a friend if my new outfit made me look like a ten. He said, "No, urinate!" Love the hub.
drbj, strike while the iron is hot. There may not be an app for that yet!
I am totally pissed that nobody told me about this before ; )
You made me laugh BC! I was just thinking that I needed to drop in on your hubs as I hadn't "seen you" in a while. Thanks for the visit!
This is too funny, but I see the usefullness in it! Never heard of it - thanks for sharing!
great coverage in the newsletter - you rock as does this hub like so many others. Thanks for your ability to be consistantly creative and entertaining. Your hubbuddy, Kimberly xo
habee, I must thank the Today Show. Between Today, and Dr. Oz, you could find at least one hub idea a day! I just liked this one enough to go with it.
Thanks so much Kimberly for being the first to recognize my mention for this hub in the weekly HP newsletter.
Wow, thanks everyone for the great comments and support.
@TattoGuy, you're "pissed" that you didn't come up with this yourself? Nice pun. :)
It's been great getting all the publicity and making some money off of RunPee. It's now my primary source of income. And believe me. I earn every penny because of all the crappy movies I have to see! :)
Thanks again for all the support. Remember, RunPee is really your site to help you. So if you think of anything that I can do to make the site and service better just tell me. Right now I'm working on improving the site for international viewers and adding a few additional features. Such as: letting people vote on which peetime they would recommend, "running late" a synopsis of the first 10 minutes of the movie in case you come in late, and a mobile version for all smartphones other than Apple. And I have lots of movies to see. This all keeps me very busy. Fortunately it's a lot of fun.
Well that is certainly a great app, that is one I am going to get on my I-phone thank you so much for the information I cannot wait to check it out! :)
RunPee I am absolutely thrilled that you visited my hub! As you can see from the other comments, the response to your site and app has been quite favorable!
Thanks for stopping by AEvans. I absolutely will be checking the site before going to any movies!
Man, what will they think of next! Great idea though. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Duchess. I wish I would have known about this before I saw Avatar!

Update - 8th June 2009: I noticed today that this photo has passed 10,000 views, and is my first photo to do so ever! Thanks everyone for viewing it, and I'm sure part of it is due to the fact that it's been used on a few big blogs too. Hurrah! :-) -

That sounds like a useful application. I wish I had it at the weekend when I went to see Avatar.
I ended up having to dash out just before the military destroyed home tree.
I’ve been to a few cinema showings where they have had intermissions, Pirates of the Caribbean 3 was one I remember, to allow people to get up during a very long film. They also took the opportunity to sell more candy.
